We provide practical ways to retain affordable family lawyers

Litigation is costly! If you cannot afford to fully retain a Burlington family lawyer, you can still get the help you need! Grant Lee Law provides unbundled legal services by way of limited scope retainers. This ensures that you always remain in control of your costs. We only do the work you need assistance with. We also provide coaching to clients who simply need a lawyer in their corner to help navigate the court process. When and if you require comprehensive family law representation, we are capable of providing this as well.

When Is Family Litigation Necessary?

Issues such as domestic violence, financial abuse, and hiding family assets, can frustrate attempts at fair negotiations through alternative dispute resolution techniques, such as mediation, or collaborative family law. In these situations, the lawyers can bring an Application to the court for important temporary and final orders for:
• Full and complete financial disclosure
• Custody- parenting agreements
• Access to children by either parent until a final order is put in place
• Support for children and dependent spouses
• Family Property orders to prevent either party from depleting or hiding family assets
• Exclusive possession of the family home and its contents

What Is A Limited Scope Retainer?

We agree to provide unbundled legal services for only the parts of your legal matter you need assistance with. We will enter into a written Limited Scope Retainer Agreement and clearly outline the nature, extent and scope of legal services that you specifically want us to provide.
The Burlington Family Law Services We Provide under either a limited scope or full/traditional retainer include:
• Drafting legal documents: conference briefs, Applications, costs submissions, and factums
• Reviewing letters from opposing counsel and preparing your responses to assist you in negotiations
• Explaining what to expect at each stage of your case
• Conducting legal research
• Attending as agent at conferences, motions and trials
• Preparing your Net Family Property Statement
• Reviewing financial disclosure to assess the sufficiency of the disclosure
• Providing you with Independent Legal advice (ILA) on mediated separation agreements and domestic contracts, such as parenting agreements, and cohabitation agreements.
